The midway mark of the 2018 golf season is roughly here, which means it's time to hand out some midseason awards and reflect on how the PGA Tour season has unfolded so far.

Player of the Year: Bubba Watson

Watson's three victories place him in a class of his own. Despite not winning a major, he conquered marquee events in the WGC Match Play, the Genesis Open at the iconic Riviera Golf Club, and the surprisingly stacked Travelers Championship. Watson is a solid second half away from winning this award come season's end.

Runner-up: Dustin Johnson

Tournament of the Year: WGC-Mexico Championship

This event in early March had it all: incredible shots, a loaded field, and a great champion. Phil Mickelson defeated Justin Thomas in a playoff to claim his first PGA Tour win since 2013. Thomas holed out for eagle with his final shot to get into the playoff ahead of a loaded World Golf Championship field.

Runner-up: Masters (winner: Patrick Reed)

Breakout Player: Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau had the potential to become an elite player on Tour, and it's come to fruition in 2018. He won his second PGA Tour event at the Memorial, a field that consisted of many of the world's best. He also has five other top-10 finishes this season. It would be a shock if the 24-year-old was left off the American Ryder Cup team.

Runner-up: Tony Finau

Shot of the Year: DJ's walk-off eagle

Johnson won the St. Jude Classic in walk-off fashion, holing out for a ridiculous eagle on the final hole. Sure, the eagle wasn't required, as he ended up winning by six shots, but the fact DJ showed up to the weak event, dominated the field, and walked it off with an eagle is a boss move.

Runner-up: Justin Thomas' eagle hole out to force playoff in Mexico

Biggest Disappointment: Jordan Spieth

Spieth is having the worst season of his young career. He only has four top-10 finishes in 2018 to go along with four missed cuts in 16 events played. The three-time major winner seems to have forgotten how to putt, ranking 177th in strokes gained: putting out of 204 eligible players. Since his third-place finish at the Masters - his lone bright spot this season - Spieth doesn't have a single top-20 result. He only has a handful of opportunities remaining to collect his first win in 2018 and is in danger of missing the most cuts in a season in his career.

Runner-up: Hideki Matsuyama

Wildest Moment: Mickelson's antics at Shinnecock Hills

Mickelson's actions at Shinnecock Hills will go down as one of the craziest and weirdest moments in golf history, let alone this season. One of the greatest and most polarizing golfers of all time ran on the green to deliberately hit a moving ball. "Lefty" then doubled down on his blatant infraction by saying he "took advantage of the rules." Mickelson has since gone on to apologize for the incident, but his disrespectful actions will go down in history.

Runner-up: Tony Finau's top 10 at the Masters after a gruesome ankle injury.

Rookie of the Year: Aaron Wise

Wise is one of three rookies to win on Tour this season, claiming the Byron Nelson by three shots in May. He also gave Jason Day a run for his money the week prior, coming second at the Wells Fargo Championship. The 22-year-old ranks first in strokes gained: total among rookies.
