Jason Day quickly turned the page on his disappointing U.S. Open by carding a 4-under 66 in Round 1 of the Travelers Championship.

Day made six birdies at TPC River Highlands thanks to remarkable iron play as he gained over 2.5 strokes on approach shots. He ranks 178th for the season in strokes gained: approach to green, which suggests he may have turned a corner with his opening-round performance.

The U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka was also in action early Thursday morning and got off to a blazing start. Koepka birdied four of his first five holes before leaking oil on the back-nine to shoot a 2-under 68.

Two-time major winner Zach Johnson shot the low round of the morning wave, sitting with the clubhouse lead after a 7-under 63.
