Bridgestone Golf CEO admits it's time to standardize ball on tour

With driving distances continuing to increase on the PGA Tour, Bridgestone Golf president and CEO Angel Ilagan believes it's time to standardize the golf ball.

"As it relates to the tour, there needs to be something to standardize (the ball) because the guys are hitting it way too long," Ilgane told Golf.com. "They are making a lot of clubs obsolete."

Ilagan, however, doesn't feel the everyday golfer should be forced to play with a limited ball, instead promoting a different set of principles for those not playing professionally.

"I think there is an option where we have a ball that is played on tour and a ball that is not played on tour ... a ball that is played casually," he added. "So, we focus on all golfers, so that you've got the standardized ball for the tour, but then you have a ball that is made for each individual."
