Fowler cards final-round 61 to win Hero World Challenge

Rickie Fowler was simply brilliant Sunday in the Bahamas.

Fowler began the day seven-shots back of Charley Hoffman for the lead, but fired a final-round 61 to finish at 18-under par for the week, and capture the Hero World Challenge.

The 28-year-old American opened his round with seven consecutive birdies before making a par at No. 8, but dropped another at the ninth to make the turn in 28.

"I was just trying to stay as calm as possible and try and stay in the moment and make sure I was going through my process and not get ahead of myself," Fowler told the Golf Channel. "Seven (birdies) was the most I've made before, so I was really trying to get that eighth."

Fowler made three more on the back to set an Albany course record, shoot the lowest round of his career, and win his second worldwide victory of the year.

Hoffman, who came into the final round with a five-shot lead, struggled the entire day, posting an even-par 72 to finish in solo second place at 14-under.

Tommy Fleetwood and Jordan Spieth tied for third at 12-under par, while the defending champion, Hideki Matsuyama, tied for fifth with Patrick Reed and Justin Rose.

Tiger Woods closed out his week with a 68 to tie for ninth place, and is expected to jump over 500 spots in the world rankings this week.
