Mackenzie Hughes said his goal was East Lake and the Tour Championship after the Canadian Open in July.
Hughes took a big leap toward his target Monday at the Dell Technologies, posting a final-round 67 and finishing in a tie for 13th to climb six spots in the FedEx Cup standings into 31st position.
The result in Boston was Hughes' best career finish in the playoffs, but he'll need another solid performance at the BMW Championship in Illinois to reach Atlanta.
The Dundas, Ontario, native had already qualified for the third leg of the playoffs, which consists of the top 70 players in the standings. However, only the top 30 will advance to the final playoff event at the end of September, while also earning an invitation to the 2018 Masters in April.
