While most golf fans in North America were sleeping in Saturday, Branden Grace was making history in the third round at The Open Championship.

Grace became the first player in 442 major championships played to fire a round of 62 in one of the four big events in golf.

"It was a special day," Grace told reporters after the round. He added, "I just played flawless golf. I think I missed two greens and two fairways the whole day, and the putter was hot."

While others watching knew what was at stake late in the South African's round at Royal Birkdale, Grace was clueless about the magic number he was about to achieve.

"I had no idea that 62 was the lowest ever," he said, "but now it makes it even more special."
