McIlroy switches putters prior to 3rd round at Travelers

After an opening-round 67 at the Travelers Championship, Rory McIlroy said he'd give his TaylorMade Spider putter another try to see if it would cooperate after missing the cut at the U.S. Open.

"I made a decision this week, I'd give it one more week and see how it performed," McIlroy told Alex Myers of Golf Digest. "But it's nothing to do with the putter, it's mostly what I'm doing with it."

After barely making the cut Friday thanks to another tough day on the greens, McIlroy arrived at the TPC River Highlands course with five different flatsticks to experiment with prior to his round.

The Northern Irishman spent the majority of his practice session on the practice green Saturday morning, and then, according to Rex Hoggard of the Golf Channel, elected to go with the TaylorMade TP Mullen model.

McIlroy was ranked 77th in both strokes gained: putting and putts per GIR entering Saturday's third round.
