Top quote - Rory McIlroy

"No. Never harm an animal," McIlroy told Jason Sobel of ESPN when asked if he felt like going home and kicking his cat after his second-round 73.

Best round - Anirban Lahiri (63)

Lahiri recovered from a first-round 73, by shooting a 7-under-par 63 on the TPC River Highlands course in the second round. The 29-year-old's clean scorecard featured five birdies and an eagle en route to his lowest career score on the PGA Tour.

Biggest disappointment - Harris English

English sat at 3-under par for the tournament, but made a sextuple-bogey eleven at the par-5 13th and missed the cut by two shots.

Stat - Jason Day

The last time Day missed back-to-back cuts was in 2015 when he missed the weekend at THE PLAYERS and Memorial. The world No. 4 would rally to finish the season winning four times in nine starts.

Saturday's storyline

  • Spieth was still able to shoot a 69 on Friday despite not having his best stuff, and heads into the weekend with a great chance to win his second title this season on the PGA Tour.
  • Patrick Reed faded last Sunday at Erin Hills, but has returned to form and he's very much in the hunt again this week.
