Spieth: 'Things were just a little bit off' in 2nd-round 69

One of the hardest things to do in golf is follow up a low round with another great round.

Jordan Spieth ripped up TPC River Highlands on Thursday with an opening-round 63, but had to grind out a 1-under-par 69 on Friday at the Travelers Championship.

"I was a little tentative to start," Spieth told PGATour.com. "I had a double cross off the tee on the par 5 and made double. But responded nicely. Things were just a little bit off today. I didn't feel like it was much harder than yesterday, just had an off round and was able to hold it at 1-under."

Stat Round 1 Round 2
Fairways hit 8/14 10/14
Greens hit 15/18 12/18
Putts per GIR 1.533 1.75

The Texan made four birdies, a bogey, and a double in his round, but after a number of weeks trying to find his touch on the greens with his putter, he's beginning to feel the confidence return in his stroke.

"I had to make a lot more putts from three-to-seven feet today than I had to yesterday, just because of missing greens or being further away from the hole," said Spieth, adding, "It was actually kind of nice to make par that way, versus tapping in, and kind of seeing a few more of those putts go in."

While the 23-year-old's day of competition on the course is done, he's not finished working on his game heading into the weekend.

"In my swing, there's just a little bit of a lack of early rotation going back, leaving a slightly closed club face, and from there it's pretty challenging to commit to all of my shots," he said. "And that was different from yesterday."
