4 best shots from Spieth's round of 63 at the Travelers
Jordan Spieth blistered the TPC River Highlands layout in the opening round of the Travelers Championship on Thursday. Spieth's first-round 63 was littered with some amazing shots by the 23-year-old.
Here are the best four shots from his opening round.
Saucing it at No. 2
After finding the fairway off the tee at the par-4 second, Spieth put some serious spin on his wedge from 93 yards out, hitting it into the middle of the green, then sucking it back inside two feet for a birdie.
Up and down at No. 4
Spieth's drive at the fourth found the thick rough on the right side of the fairway, leaving him 178 yards to the hole for his second shot. The two-time major champion hacked his ball onto the green, and watched it climb inside of six feet, leading to his third birdie in four holes.
Over the water at No. 17
know he's pretty good at golf but watching Spieth just casually hit from 155 fairway bunker over water & stop the ball on a dime was p neat pic.twitter.com/Or7YV7fi32

Spieth pulled his tee shot into the left fairway bunker at the 17th, but stayed aggressive with his second shot from the sand. With the pin tucked on the right side of the green, Spieth took dead aim at the flag, and dropped his approach 14 feet from the hole. The world No. 6 was unable to convert the birdie putt, but would tap in for par.
Solo leader
After splitting the fairway with his drive, Spieth flagged his wedge shot at the 18th hole, landing on the green, and then spinning it to four feet. Spieth would make the putt for a first-round 63, and grab the solo lead.
