Tiger texted Day during U.S. Open

Tiger Woods may not be on a golf course for a while, but he's still tuned into how his friends are doing on the PGA Tour.

Woods - who announced Monday he's receiving professional help to manage his medications - sent Jason Day a message after the Australian's disastrous opening round at the U.S. Open.

"He texted me after I shot 79 and said, 'Hey, before you work on something call me because I saw something,'" Day told Rex Hoggard of the Golf Channel. "I was like, yeah, you saw 79 shots. I didn't call him because I was so angry."

Day grew up idolizing the 14-major champion, and although he hasn't contacted Woods since his DUI arrest, he is hoping the fallen star gets the help he needs.

"When you see guys go through things like this you want to make sure they are in the right spot and I'm hoping for a speedy recovery," said Day.

Woods could very well get a call Thursday evening, however, as the Aussie shot a disappointing 2-over-par 72 in the opening round of the Travelers Championship.
