One year ago, Jason Day claimed THE PLAYERS Championship by four shots, making the last few holes a stroll in the park at TPC Sawgrass - not the case Sunday.

Day's disaster began at the par-5 16th, where he was forced to pitch his second shot out sideways, due to an errant drive. The world No. 3 tried to fly his third on the green, but the shot wound up in the water. Day would need six more shots to complete the hole, and walked off with a quadruple-bogey nine.

The Aussie's luck wouldn't improve at the par-3 17th, rinsing his tee shot and would post a double-bogey five.

Day would par the 18th hole, but the damage was done in under an hour.

His 8-over-par 80 is the highest final-round score by a defending champion.
