Dustin Johnson was just average for three rounds at THE PLAYERS Championship, but looked like the world No. 1 player on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass.
Johnson had an eagle, two bogeys, and a birdie on his front nine, but closed his tournament making three birdies and no bogeys to shoot a 4-under-par 68.
The 33-year-old had his best ball-striking round of the week, finding 16-of-18 greens, which he attributed to his good score.
"I hit my irons a little bit better, I had a lot more birdie looks today. So, I didn't feel like I was scrambling all day, like I did the first three days," Johnson told pgatour.com after he signed his scorecard.
One of the many highlights in his round came at the the reachable par-4 12th, where the world No. 1 made a wild birdie on the hole.
"I was trying to hit a little cut 3 wood, and I double-crossed it, and I actually hit it left of the water. I wasn't in a great spot, but I hit a really good pitch from there. I landed it just over the water, and it rolled up there to about a foot. So, I obviously got away with one there."
Johnson finished at 2-under par for the tournament, but won't finish inside the top 10 for the first time since January, when he missed the cut at Torrey Pines.
