2017 Masters tickets posting massive demand on resale market

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Chances are you missed out on 2017 Masters tickets through the tournament’s randomized lottery last June. Never fear, tickets are available on the resale market.

If you’re willing to shell out some serious cash, that is.

The Masters Tournament is widely known as being one of the toughest tickets to snag in professional sports, and that will again hold true at this year’s event in Augusta. With fans holding on to the small hope of being selected in the random lottery, the majority face the limited inventory and exorbitant prices on resale platforms.

On search engine TicketIQ, 2017 Masters Tournament tickets are generating massive demand with less than a week removed from play. The average resale price for a 4-day badge, which grants access to all days between Thursday and Sunday, is now $6,144. While there is limited quantity available, that makes it the most expensive badge since 2013, when 4-day badges averaged $9,267. The cheapest 4-day passes are priced from $2,467 each.

It will be cheaper to purchase single-day passes, but not by much. All four days are averaging over $1,900 each, with no individual day owning tickets cheaper than $1,500. The tournament’s final day on Sunday will be the cheapest to attend at a $1,565 get-in price. Additional savings can be found on the TicketIQ app.

Perhaps the biggest name in the field this year is Dustin Johnson, who’s already put together a huge year in 2017. DJ heads to Augusta on the heels of three straight PGA Tour wins, at the Genesis Open, WGC-Mexico Championship, and WGC-Match Play. He is just the fourth player in history to enter the Masters off three straight PGA wins and the first to do so since Hubert Green in 1976.

Jordan Spieth will look to rebound after a forgettable 2016. The 23-year-old hopes to hit his stride in Augusta after a first-place finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and third-place honors at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Thomas bring two wins on the year with them. Bubba Watson aims to improve on his Masters wins in 2012 and 2014.
