Thomas ties 54-hole scoring record after shooting 65

Another day, another milestone for Justin Thomas at the Sony Open.

Thomas shot a 5-under 65 on Saturday to tie the 54-hole PGA Tour scoring record of 188, set by Steve Stricker at the 2010 John Deere Classic.

The world No. 12 began his round making eight straight pars before a birdie at the par-5 ninth. Thomas added three more birdies on the inward nine and needed one more at the home hole to tie the record.

The Louisville native took an aggressive line with his tee shot that went way left, forcing him to lay up for his third.

The approach left him 14 feet for birdie and another record for the week.

"To shoot 5-under not having my best stuff is great," said Thomas after the round. "I hit a lot of quality shots coming down the stretch when I could've been fatigued."

Thomas now has a seven-shot lead over second-place Zach Johnson heading into Sunday.
