Woods' agent: 'Nothing new to report' on Tiger's return
Tiger Woods swing looked pretty impressive Thursday as he hit balls during a junior clinic, but his agent Mark Steinberg insists that the 14-time major winner is no closer to a return.
A report earlier Friday said "all indications" were Woods would tee it up at the Wells Fargo Championship beginning May 5, something Steinberg didn't pay much attention to.
"Chatter is just that," Woods' longtime agent told ESPN's Bob Harig in a text message. "Literally nothing new to report. That is truth."
Steinberg's comments come just two weeks after he gave an update on Woods' status, saying the return date still wasn't determined.
"I don't know when he'll be back," he said on April 6. "I think it's just part of the process. He is not setting a time to return. I want to be clear there is zero timetable."
Woods' performance Thursday at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley left those in attendance wowed at his progress. According to Golf Channel, the former world No. 1 worked through his entire bag, including some 2-iron stingers and full-swing drivers.
With The Players Championship coming up May 12-15, a return at the Wells Fargo would make sense if he wanted a tuneup for the prestigious event.
