De Grasse golden for Canada in men's 200m final, U.S. finishes 2-4
Andre De Grasse is finally golden.
The 26-year-old Canadian sprinter won the men's 200m final Wednesday at the Tokyo Olympics in a time of 19.62 - a personal best and faster than Usain Bolt's gold-medal-winning run in 2016 (19.78).
It's the fifth Olympic medal of De Grasse's stellar career and his second in Tokyo after winning bronze in the 100 meters.
"I did it! Finally!" De Grasse said after claiming the prize he's had his eyes on for years.
U.S. sprinter Kenneth Bednarek took silver in 19.68 and his countryman Noah Lyles won bronze in 19.74. Their teammate Erriyon Knighton, only 17, also ran a sub-20 and finished fourth in 19.93.
Canada's Aaron Brown finished in sixth place.
