Matt Centrowitz won gold in the men's 1500m on Sunday, the first U.S. athlete to win the race since 1908.
Centrowitz also became the first American man to win a gold in a distance longer than 400m since 1972.
The American ran a 3:50 flat to take gold after finishing fourth in the distance at London 2012.
Reigning Olympic champion Taofik Makhloufi of Algeria took silver, while New Zealand's Nicholas Williams took home bronze.
