Durant out for start of USA camp with calf strain
Team USA head coach Steve Kerr said that Kevin Durant suffered a minor calf strain before training camp for the Paris Olympics and has been held out to begin out of "an abundance of caution," according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps.
Durant is considered day-to-day, Kerr added.
Although the injury isn't considered serious, Durant's status is in doubt for the U.S.'s first exhibition game Wednesday against Canada, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Joe Vardon.
Team USA's first Olympic game is July 28 versus Serbia. No player on the squad can be replaced once the final roster is submitted to Olympic governors later this month.
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum missed the first day of training camp Friday due to an excused absence. Team USA has also been cautious during practice with Joel Embiid and Kawhi Leonard, who are dealing with knee issues.
Durant, 35, is the U.S.'s all-time leading scorer. He averaged 27.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, and five assists for the Phoenix Suns last season.
