Senators' Stone strikes twice in drubbing of the Lightning
Mark Stone picked up his 15th and 16th goals of the season and added an assist as the Ottawa Senators downed the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-1 Monday.
The 23-year-old extended his goal-scoring streak to four games, giving him five goals and eight points in his last four contests.
Stone came close to collecting the hat trick, as with more than 8:30 left in the third period and his team down 4-1, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper decided to pull goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The Lightning were able to pepper the Senators until finally with 4:38 left Jean-Gabriel Pageau put a puck into the empty net.
Pageau apologized to Stone for getting the empty netter. Wanted Stone to get his hat trick.
