The third period of Saturday's game between the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders was delayed by over 35 minutes after the Zamboni accomplished the exact opposite of its intended job.

Rather than flooding and leveling the ice at intermission, the Zamboni appeared to pick up a peg used to keep the nets in place, and dragged it across the ice - creating a gash that almost hit the cement underneath.

After both clubs approved of the patchwork, play resumed, with the Red Wings and Islanders agreeing to switch sides at the 10-minute mark.
