Dickie Moore, Canadiens legend, dies at 84
Montreal Canadiens great Richard "Dickie" Moore, a key member of the team's 1950s dynasty, died Saturday at 84.
One of the greatest left wingers in franchise history, Moore was a six-time Stanley Cup champion and two-time Art Ross Trophy winner during his 14-year career.
"Dickie Moore was a player of great skill and even-greater heart, someone admired on the ice for his will to win and adored in the community for his commitment to good deeds," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.
"As we mourn his passing, the National Hockey League family sends our deepest condolences to his family and his many friends inside and outside of the game."
Moore, a Montreal native, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1974.
He finished his career with 608 points in 719 career games, and recorded another 110 in postseason play.
Moore's No. 12 hangs from the rafters at Bell Centre.
He's survived by his daughter Lianne and son John.
