The Carolina Hurricanes have arranged a tryout of sorts for longtime defenseman Tim Gleason.

Gleason will practice this week to give the Hurricanes "a chance to assess his physical aptitude," the team announced Wednesday.

The 32-year-old free agent has appeared in 546 games with the Hurricanes over nine seasons. He's also spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings, and Washington Capitals.

He scored a goal and collected nine points across 72 games last season with the Hurricanes and Capitals.
