Tomas Plekanec will remain with the only team he's ever known.

The Montreal Canadiens and the center agreed to a two-year contract extension Friday, the club announced. The deal is worth $12 million, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie, with Plekanec earning $7 million in 2016-17 and $5 million in 2017-18.

Plekanec was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He's in the final season of a six-year, $30-million contract.

The 32-year-old had 26 goals and 34 assists in 82 games last season, and is a seven-time 20-goal scorer.

A reliable two-way player, Plekanec is off to a good start along with the Canadiens this season, with four goals in five games.

Plekanec was a third-round pick, 71st overall, by Montreal in 2001. He has 206 goals and 297 assists in 766 regular-season games, and 46 points in 81 playoff games.
