Bruins send goalies Subban, McIntyre to AHL; race for backup job down to 2
And then there were two.
That's the number of candidates that remain in the mix for the backup goaltending job with the Boston Bruins, after it was announced Sunday that Malcolm Subban and Zane McIntyre were among a host of players assigned to the club's AHL affiliate in Providence.
Jonas Gustavsson, who's in camp on a pro tryout, and Jeremy Smith will continue to battle for the right to serve as Tuukka Rask's understudy in Beantown this season.
Subban, a first-round pick back in 2012 who's considered to be the most talented of the group, posted a record of 16-13-4 with a .921 save percentage last season in the AHL, while also playing one game in the NHL. He will presumably get the lion's share of the starts for Providence once again this year.
