NHL salary cap's upper limit set at $71.4 million for 2015-16 season
The salary cap is going up.
The National Hockey League and the Players' Association announced Tuesday that the payroll range for 2015-16 will have an upper limit of $71.4 million, with the floor set at $52.8 million.
The cap for this past season was set at $69 million with a floor of $51 million, meaning this marks only a modest bump.
Salary cap upper-limit increase of 3.47 percent is the second smallest year-to-year increase for NHL since cap was instituted in 2005.

Owners and general managers will now have a better sense of what they can add, or what they need to cut, from their respective payrolls.
The Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Los Angeles Kings, and Montreal Canadiens all have over $65 million committed in salaries for the upcoming season, according to War On Ice.
Conversely, as many as 11 teams are currently below the cap floor.
