The Washington Capitals have locked up their backup to Braden Holtby.

The team signed Philipp Grubauer to a two-year, one-way contract, general manager Brian MacLellan announced Monday.

Grubauer spent last season with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, going 27-17-5 with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. He also suited up in one regular season and one postseason game for the Capitals.

The deal will pay him an average of $750,000 per season.
