Like they've done all season, the Vancouver Canucks responded.
Eddie Lack made 22 saves as the Canucks jumped out early and skated to a sound 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames, evening a suddenly explosive series at a game apiece.
If there were any doubts about Lack getting the crease over Ryan Miller, the conversation has been put to bed. Lack has stopped 50-of-53 shots through the opening two games.
Star Performer: Alex Edler was beastly. The defenseman logged 24:45 of ice and finished with three shots, four hits and a plus-2 rating. He got a lick in on Sam Bennett, too, forcing the rookie to the locker room in the second.
Turning Point: The fans were into it right off the hop, but the Sedins kept them there with a quick strike. Henrik took advantage of a slip-and-sliding Deryk Engelland and fed brother Daniel with a dandy cross-ice pass to open the scoring less than three minutes in.
Goalie Comparison: The Flames pulled Jonas Hiller with just under six minutes left in game, presumably to give their starter - who certainly played well enough to finish - some added rest.
Goalie | Shots | GA | Saves | SV% |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hiller | 29 | 3 | 26 | 0.897 |
Ramo | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1.000 |
Lack | 23 | 1 | 22 | 0.957 |
Top Highlight: Daniel's goal, pretty nice, and Ronalds Kenins's too. But Lack throwing blockers to Brandon Bollig's rear wins out.
Stat of the Night: The Canucks avoided setting a dubious NHL record, snapping a streak of seven straight postseason losses on home ice.
