The Sharks relocated their farm team from Worcester, Mass., as part of a larger realignment that created a new Pacific Division with five new California-based club.
The Barracuda name comes in light of a corporate partnership with Barracuda Networks, a sports marketing firm with ties to the parent club. They will begin play in San Jose this fall.
The name was also considered for the NHL club when the Sharks entered the league in 1990.
