The Montreal Canadiens have dealt forward Jiri Sekac to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Devante Smith-Pelly, the clubs announced Tuesday.
Smith-Pelly scored five goals and added 12 assists in 54 games with the Ducks this season. The 22-year-old is earning $210,000 this season and is under contract for one more year at $800,000.
Sekac registered seven goals and nine assists in 50 games with the Canadiens. He is also 22 years old, but is under contract for one more season at $925,000 with a cap hit of $1.35 million.
The move means the Canadiens will save $550,000 next season.
"You look at our needs, and I think Devante fits what we're looking for," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said. "We wish Jiri the best with Anaheim.
"At the end of the day, we paid a price for Devante. Jiri was on the right track from the start with us, though."
