The Ottawa Senators signed defenseman Marc Methot to a four-year contract extension worth $19.6 million, the team announced Monday.

His pact includes a 10-team no-trade clause, affording the veteran rearguard an option to veto a potential deal to specified clubs.

Methot - previously an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season - was a prime candidate to be dealt before the March 2 trade deadline. His deal will push market value on comparable defenseman who will be on their way out.

He will now carry a $4.9 million hit against the cap through 2019, a nice raise on the $3.75 million he's earning this season.

The 29-year-old defenceman has five assists in 17 games this season, while registering 15 goals and 90 points over his 414 career games played.
