VIDEO: Senators' Ryan fans on last-second opportunity to tie game vs. Devils

Jim O'Connor / USA Today

Bobby Ryan had overtime on his stick in the dying seconds of regulation Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils.

However, the Ottawa Senators forward couldn't get a handle on the puck to direct it into an open net before time expired.

Ryan was alone at the side of the net when the puck came to him with approximately three seconds remaining. Perhaps surprised to receive the puck in such an advantageous position, he fanned on his initial attempt and was dispossessed before he could recover.

"Truthfully, I still don't really know what happened," Ryan told reporters after the game. "I don't know if I got a stick on it or not. It was a cluster and, at that point, you're just trying to swing and get a piece of something."

Devils defenseman Adam Larsson knew his team got lucky letting Ryan have such a dangerous chance, but general manager and coach Lou Lamoriello didn't seem fazed.

"The puck didn't go in," he said when asked to describe the play. "Adam got his stick on it."
