Johnny Oduya understanding of the finite life of a Blackhawk
Having seen countless players come and go, Johnny Oduya now faces the writing on the wall himself.
With Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane's eight-figure deals kicking in next season, and his own individual performance taking a considerable dip, the free-agent-to-be understands his time with the always-evolving Chicago Blackhawks is coming to a close.
But while his future remains uncertain, Oduya's focus is on the present.
"Everybody knows the reality of the NHL, where every year is different," he told Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun Times. "And any time you have a good team and you have a chance to do something, that’s an opportunity you don't want to let slip.
"I think that goes for everybody on our team, really. It's not any different for me. Like anything in life, you've got to have a lot of fun and seize the moment and use the time you have, and not really think about what’s been done before or what's further down the road. You have to think about what's happening now."
Oduya, who was split from long-time partner Niklas Hjalmarsson, has two goals, five points, a minus-six rating and an even Corsi For percentage on a team controlling 54.4 percent of possession.
