Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin will not play against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday:

Malkin, 28, missed portions of Pittsburgh's contest on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers

In 45 games this season, the Russian-born pivot has managed 19 goals and 51 points. Malkin is scheduled to appear in the All-Star Game this upcoming weekend, but his status could be in doubt as a result of this ailment.

Following Wednesday's contest, Penguins head coach Mike Johnston declined to provide a detailed update on Malkin's condition.

"He wasn't able to play," explained the Penguins head coach.

Johnston also suggested that a decision on whether or not Malkin will be able to participate in this weekend's All-Star festivities has yet to be reached
