Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen could still play this season, but that remains an unlikely prospect.

"Kimmo Timonen has a doctors appointment for next month," reported Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on Saturday night.

Friedman, recapping some of Flyers general manager Ron Hextall's comments during an interview on Saturday, added:

"Hextall on (Timonen) coming back this year: It's a possibility but he's not sure if it's a probability."

The 39-year-old defender, a hugely productive offensive defenseman throughout his career, was diagnosed with blood clots in his leg and lungs this past summer.
