Antti Niemi recorded 29 saves and Tomas Hertl's first-period marker proved to be the game-winner as the Sharks shut out the Nashville Predators for the first time in seven years Saturday with a 2-0 victory.

- With two more points in hand, the Sharks jumped Calgary into a tie for second in the division.
- Joe Thornton scored his 350th career goal into an empty net, his sixth point over the last three games.
- Niemi's second shutout of the season was the 29th of his career.
- The loss is only Nashville's second in regulation against Pacific Division competition. They are now 7-2-1 on the season.
- It's also just the third time over the last 15 games in which the Predators failed to collect points against San Jose.
