Blues' Elliott considered week-to-week with lower-body injury
The St. Louis Blues will soldier on for a spell without the services of starting goaltender Brian Elliott after he got twisted up during a scrum in his crease Tuesday night.
The 29-year-old is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, according to Fox Sports' Andy Strickland. The belief is that Elliott is suffering from a sprained knee that won't require surgery, reports Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Elliott has started 14 of St. Louis's first 22 games, and has been mostly excellent. The veteran puck stopper has amassed an 8-4-1 record this season, with a 1.89 goals-against average and a stellar .931 save percentage.
In Elliott's absence, the Blues have recalled former Team Canada World Junior goaltender Jordan Binnington, who will serve as the backup for Jake Allen.
Allen has been excellent in his first full NHL season, with a 6-2-1 record in nine appearances and a very good .920 save percentage
The Blues play a set of back-to-back games this weekend. They'll host the Edmonton Oilers on Friday and then play the Minnesota Wild on the road on Saturday night. Blues coach Ken Hitchcock is generally pretty savvy about using data to inform his decision making, so it seems likely that Binnington will get his first career NHL start this weekend.
