New York Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi is probably going to keep his head up from now on whenever Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin is on the ice.

Malkin laid out Girardi with a massive hit in the third period of Saturday's game. The veteran blue-liner turned to play the puck behind his team's net and ran square into the cold shoulder of Malkin. Girardi appeared shaken up on the play but remained in the game.

Marc Staal stood up for his defensive partner and tussled with Malkin after the hit, resulting in offsetting minor penalties for roughing.
