VIDEO: Islanders' Halak stones Jets' Ladd with left-pad save
Brad Penner / USA Today
Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd scored twice to lift the Jets over the New York Islanders 4-3 on Tuesday, but he could have recorded a hat trick if not for a brilliant save by Jaroslav Halak.
Ladd, who had already scored once as the Islanders killed a five-minute penalty early in the second period, received a cross-crease feed and was staring at an open net until Halak got his left pad across in time to kick aside the one-timer.
The Jets would eventually score another goal during the major penalty to take a 2-1 lead. Ladd's second goal of the contest - scored early in the third period - stood as the game-winner.
