Wayne Gretzky becomes the first player in NHL history to reach 2,000 points in his career, tallying an assist with the L.A. Kings on Tomas Sandstrom's breakaway goal in a 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
The Great One reaches the milestone in just his 857th game, playing into his 11th season riding a 2.33 point-per-game pace.
Gretzky slows down only slightly with age, retiring with 894 goals, 1,963 assists and 2,857 points in 1,487 games for a league-record 1.921 points per game for his career.
He remains the only member of the 2,000-point club.
1997 - Yzerman becomes longest-serving NHL captain
Steve Yzerman passes Detroit Red Wings legend Alex Delvecchio as the longest-serving captain in NHL history, wearing the letter into the 12th game of his 12th season as leader of the franchise.
