The Montreal Canadiens won their fourth straight game and snapped the New York Rangers' three-game win streak with a 3-1 win at the Bell Centre on Saturday night.

Here's what you need to know:

  • The Canadiens tied the franchise record for most wins in the first eight games of the season by earning their seventh victory. It's their best start since they went 7-0-1 to start the 1961-62 season.
  • Montreal opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, as Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty somehow ended up with a 2-on-0 and converted on a Rangers power play.
  • Carey Price's dominance of the Rangers continued as the goaltender stopped 34-of-35 shots and improved to 9-5-1 in his career against them. Price has five shutouts in 16 games against the Rangers in his career.
  • Montreal remained undefeated at home this season, improving to 4-0-0 at the Bell Centre.
  • Two of the league's worst power play units continued to struggle. The Rangers went 0-for-2 with the man advantage and allowed the aforementioned shorthanded goal in the first period, while the Canadiens squandered their only power play chance.
