Wild sign Jonas Brodin to 6-year contract extension worth reported $25M
The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Jonas Brodin to a six-year contract extension, the club announced Sunday.
The deal is worth $4.167 million per year, with a total valuation of $25 million, according to Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press.
“We are very excited to get Jonas Brodin signed through the 2020-21 season,” said general manager Chuck Fletcher. “He is one of the premier young defensemen in the NHL and has played a huge role on our team since entering the league as a 19-year-old. We’re confident that his game will continue to evolve in all areas and he will be a valuable part of our core for years to come.”
Brodin, drafted 10th overall by the Wild in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, is two games deep into his third NHL season, with 10 goals and 21 assists in 126 career games to his credit.
So far this season, he has recorded one assist, a plus-five rating and five shots on goal in two games, both shutout wins over the Colorado Avalanche.
Upon signing the contract extension, Brodin joins Ryan Suter as the only Wild defensemen signed past next season, according to Capgeek.
