Analysis:

While making his first Opening Night roster would certainly represent an accomplishment for Akeson, there was hope heading into training camp that the 24-year-old might be asked to fill a role in the team's top six, following the departure of Scott Hartnell. A prodigious point-scorer during his time at AHL Adirondack and a pleasant surprise for the Flyers in their first-round playoff loss to the Rangers last spring, Akeson seems to have more offensive potential than the typical fourth liner, but a lack of quality linemates could prove detrimental. Still, Akeson remains worth tracking in the event an injury or ineffective play from one of the Flyers' wings forces him up the depth chart.
