Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle updated the status of Cody Franson after Sunday's preseason victory over the Buffalo Sabres, saying the defenseman injured his left kneecap upon colliding with the end boards, as per Jonas Siegel of TSN.
Franson was bumped by Sabres forward Torrey Mitchell as the pair raced for the puck, and fell hard into the boards.
No penalty was called on the play.
Carlyle did not reveal the seriousness of the injury, pending further tests.
