1992 - First female plays in NHL exhibition game

Manon Rheaume breaks the NHL gender barrier, playing her first exhibition game in 1992 for the Tampa Bay Lightning and becoming the first woman to do so. 

Rheaume makes seven saves and allows two goals to the St. Louis Blues during one period of play.

She continues to play for five different teams over seven years, totaling 24 games in North American men's leagues.

Rheaume also represented Canada at the IIHF Women's World Championship and helped them to a gold medal in 1992 and 1994. She also earned a silver medal with Team Canada at the 1998 Nagano Olympics.
