P.K. Subban: 'I'd love to be the captain of the Montreal Canadiens'
Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban commanded the cash, and now he wants the responsibility that comes with it.
"I'd love to be the captain of the Montreal Canadiens," Subban told the Canadian Press on Tuesday via NHL.com.
"I embrace responsibility. ... I've always been a guy who has had to perform for my team. I have always expected that out of myself. It doesn't change anything for me. The only thing that would change is a letter on my jersey, but in Montreal that means something. That means something to the fanbase. That means something to the team."
After signing an eight-year deal that will pay him $9 million per season, there won't be a shortage of responsibilities for Subban no matter what shoulder the "C" falls on in Montreal. That said, while he may not possess the qualities associated with a traditional captain, money talks: The Canadiens are his team.
