Steve Moore, Todd Bertuzzi reach out-of-court settlement in civil suit
Representatives for Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi have reached an out-of-court settlement in relation to a civil suit filed by the former, according to Michael Grange of Sportsnet.
In a release from the Canadian Press, Geoff Adair, a lawyer for Bertuzzi, confirmed the settlement, but says the terms are confidential; Moore was seeking $68 million in damages.
The lawsuit was filed by Moore in relation to an incident on March 8, 2004 during a game between the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks; Bertuzzi punched Moore from behind and drove him into the ice, fracturing three vertebrae and ending his career.
Bertuzzi pleaded guilty to criminal assault causing bodily harm for the hit and was sentenced in 2006 to one year probation and 80 hours of community service.
