Pittsburgh Penguins forward Nick Spaling is seeking $2.85 million in salary arbitration, and according to Ken Campbell of The Hockey News, the team has countered with a one-year deal worth $1.65 million.
Drafted in the second round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Nashville Predators, Spaling scored 13 goals and added 19 assists in 2013-14. He registered 40 goals and 44 assists in 297 career games in the Music City.
The 25-year-old has yet to play a game for the Penguins after being acquired in the James Neal trade earlier this summer.
The arbitration hearing is scheduled for Friday in Toronto. If this summer's other arbitration-eligible restricted free agents are any indication, a deal is likely to be reached prior to that time.
