Blue Jackets sign David Savard to 2-year, $2.6M contract extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets have locked up defenseman David Savard for another two seasons.

The 23-year-old appeared in 70 games for the Blue Jackets in 2013-14, scoring five goals and adding 10 assists while averaging 17:50 of ice time per game.
In the postseason, his ice time was bumped to 23:20, and he recorded four assists and eight shots on goal in a six game series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
With the signing, the Blue Jackets now have six defenseman under contract for the upcoming season (as per Capgeek), with restricted free agent Tim Erixon still looking for a new deal.
