Carolina Hurricanes general manager Ron Francis introduced new head coach Bill Peters on Friday, and the bench boss quickly pointed to three areas that he will focus on:
Peters said the three things the #Canes have to fix are the power play, the starts to games, and improving the home record.

Not a bad place to start, considering the Hurricanes posted a 25th ranked home record of 18-17-6, and a 28th ranked power-play that converted at a success rate of 14.6 percent.
Peters will demand an attention to detail and a strong work ethic from his players, stating ice time will have to be earned: "I have the ultimate hammer and the hammer is ice time." He also revealed an inside look at his general coaching philosophy:
"You have to be good in the defensive zone...and go have fun in the offensive zone." -Coach Peters #Canes

Peters added he will "set [the] bar high and give Canes fans something they can be excited about."
It appears as though Peters will be able to look at last year's roster and have a good idea of what he will be working with in his first year on the job.
Francis said not looking to have a major makeover of personnel. "There's no need for a major overhaul in my eyes."

He will, however, have help behind the bench in the form of a former Hurricane, as 2006 Stanley Cup champion Rod Brind'Amour has been hired to help with special teams.
With that, a new regime is in place, one that will attempt to lead the Hurricanes to the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
